FAQ
Why is cannabis such a big topic right now?
The topic of cannabis is currently omnipresent in the media. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that it can be officially prescribed and reimbursed, and on the other hand, it is due to the controversial discussions surrounding the topic of medical cannabis. Since March 10th, 2017, seriously ill people can get medical cannabis prescribed by their doctor.
What form of medicinal cannabis is dispensed by pharmacies to patients?
On prescription, patients can receive medicinal cannabis flowers or cannabis extract. Cannabis flowers are dried flowers of the female cannabis plant. The active ingredients include delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol , cannabidiol and various terpenes . The content of the two ingredients can vary depending on the variety. Cannabis extract is a pharmaceutical grade extract of the female cannabis plant. The extract has a controlled level of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. In the pharmacy, the extracted extract is processed into capsules or as a drop solution.
Will cannabis become legal in Germany?
The coalition partners have agreed to enable the "controlled sale of cannabis for recreational purposes to adults in licensed shops". The sale, purchase and possession of cannabis should be permitted within a clearly defined legal framework. The primary goal and guiding principle of the legislative process will be to ensure the best possible health protection for consumers and to ensure the protection of children and young people.
When will there be a controlled sale of cannabis in Germany?
Since the implementation of this agreement of the coalition agreement is a complex project, it must be well prepared. Experts have already exchanged views with the government, where the central issues of youth, health and consumer protection, cultivation, trade, taxation, etc. were discussed in a structured consultation process under the direction of the addiction and drug commissioner. The aim is to present a first draft law as early as this year.
